Clearly Written for Boys is a book about the Bible, and Christianity, and the problematic relationship both have had with women throughout their histories. As both of your authors came out of a Christian background, our focus, and our criticism, is there—cleaning up our own house, as it were. (and apologies to Jewish readers if our former Christian bias is showing sometimes when we use terms like “The Old Testament,” etc.)
We explore the stories of some of the individual women in the Bible in a novel way—told in their own voices—and follow each story with insightful commentary that illuminates the historical and cultural context and provides extra details. We discuss some of the broader themes regarding women in the Bible, look at the current state of women’s rights and freedoms in our Western culture, draw some conclusions, and consider the future. Like Dorothy pulling back the curtain to reveal the Wizard of Oz, we are confident you will begin to appreciate the Bible’s treatment of women in a stark new way. Once you see it, you won’t be able to unsee it. We think you will enjoy this eye-opening journey. |
